If you’re drawn to the vibrant interplay found in ensembles like The Horace Silver Quintet or The Lee Morgan Quintet, this record fits comfortably in that company, offering a nuanced take on jazz’s expressive possibilities. This 1976 pressing brings the music to vinyl with a clean, glossy surface that shows only minor, faint marks typical for its age but nothing to hinder enjoyment. The record’s thoughtful composition and clear presentation make it a solid choice for those who prefer jazz that rewards close attention rather than background noise. As a side note, the album’s suite divisions might convince you that Horace Silver was thinking in movements before it was cool to do so on vinyl.

Track listing & samples

Horace Silver - Silver 'N Wood

Side A

Part One / Keep On Gettin' Up

Part Two / Slow Down

Part Three / Time And Effort

Part Four / Perserverance And Endurance

Side B

Part One / Motivation

Part Two / Activation

Part Three / Assimilation

Part Four / Creation
