Recorded in 1962 and released the following year, this album stands out as an intimate exploration where Ellington’s compositions—mostly new to the record—are given fresh life by two of jazz’s most restless rhythm masters. The interplay here isn’t just a meeting of giants; it’s a rare chance to hear three distinct voices engage in a musical conversation that’s as challenging as it is rewarding. It’s the kind of record that might have the jazz shelf reconsidering its own definition of “small ensemble.” This 1972 pressing presents Money Jungle on vinyl with a clean gloss, showing only minor, light surface marks typical of careful play. For those who appreciate the nuance of acoustic jazz dialogue, this edition offers a solid window into one of the more focused trio sessions in the catalog of these three legends. Just remember, it’s less a casual listen and more a conversation that asks for your full attention—no small request, but one that pays off.
