The album unfolds with tracks like "What A Day" and "Nobody’s Fool," where the band’s knack for melody and subtle interplay shines through, making it a rewarding listen for those who appreciate focused, thoughtful songwriting. Its place in the late ’60s scene captures a moment when folk and rock were weaving new patterns, and Poco’s approach leans into the acoustic textures without sacrificing energy. This 1969 pressing carries that era’s sound directly to your turntable, presented on vinyl that’s glossy and very clean, showing only minor, hardly noticeable surface marks. With a solid VG++ grade, it offers excellent playability with minimal imperfection likely to distract. The compact ensemble’s blend of vocals and instruments comes through clearly here, making it a solid choice for anyone interested in the roots of country rock or the finer details of early Poco. If you’re organizing your collection, this album’s a neat fit near other acoustic-driven groups, though it might inspire a brief detour to explore how country twang met rock’s drive without getting tangled up in the usual crossover clichés.

Track listing & samples

Poco - Pickin' Up The Pieces

Side A

Foreword

What A Day

Nobody's Fool

Calico Lady

First Love

Make Me A Smile

Short Changed

Side B

Pickin' Up The Pieces

Grand Junction

Oh Yeah

Just In Case It Happens, Yes Indeed

Tomorrow

Consequently, So Long
