Kid Creole and the Coconuts, led by August Darnell, is an influential American musical group known for blending disco with Latin American, Caribbean, and Calloway influences. The trio of female backing vocalists, known as the Coconuts, adds depth to their vibrant performances. Their 1982 album, Tropical Gangsters, marked a significant milestone, reaching #3 on the UK charts and featuring hit singles like "Stool Pigeon" and "Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy." The band made a notable appearance on Saturday Night Live in November 1980, further establishing their presence in the music scene. In recognition of their impact, they received a Brit Award for International Artist in 1983. Darnell also operates his own indie label, 2C2C Music, showcasing his dedication to music beyond the group's successes. With memorable tracks such as "I'm A Wonderful Thing, Baby," Kid Creole and the Coconuts continue to be celebrated for their unique sound and dynamic performances.
