The Supremes

The Supremes

The Supremes emerged from Detroit in 1959 and quickly became the leading act of Motown Records during the 1960s. With their signature sound and style, they achieved remarkable success, securing twelve number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Original members included Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson, and Diana Ross, with Barbara Martin joining after Betty McGlown left the group. Their hit songs, such as "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Stop! In the Name of Love," helped define the era and solidified their legacy. In 1967, the group was rebranded as Diana Ross & the Supremes, marking a significant evolution in their career. After nearly two decades of performances, The Supremes disbanded in 1977. They continue to hold a prominent place in music history, recognized by Billboard as the 16th greatest Hot 100 artist of all time. Their influence and contribution to the Motown sound remain celebrated to this day.
