Big Bill Broonzy, born Lee Conley Bradley in either 1893 or 1903, was a significant American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His music career took off in the 1920s with a focus on country music, but by the 1930s and 1940s, he had shifted to a more urban blues style, becoming a prominent figure in the genre. Broonzy was known for his songwriting, having copyrighted over 300 songs, many of which drew from his own experiences transitioning from rural to urban life. Notable tracks include "Key to the Highway" and "House Rent Stomp," reflecting the struggles and stories of everyday life. In the 1950s, Broonzy played a crucial role in the American folk music revival, showcasing his talents during a tour in Europe in 1951, where he received critical acclaim. His contributions to the music world remain influential, bridging cultural gaps and inspiring future generations of musicians.
