David Johansen is an American singer, songwriter, and actor best recognized as the lead vocalist of the influential proto-punk band the New York Dolls. He kicked off his career in the late 1960s with the Vagabond Missionaries, leading to the New York Dolls' notable albums, including their self-titled debut in 1973 and its follow-up, "Too Much Too Soon," released in 1974. Johansen is also celebrated for his solo work under the name Buster Poindexter, particularly the hit "Hot Hot Hot," which brought him significant commercial success. In addition to his music career, Johansen showcased his acting talent by playing the Ghost of Christmas Past in the film "Scrooged" in 1988. After years apart, he reunited with the New York Dolls in 2004, marking a return to the stage and releasing new albums, further solidifying his legacy in rock music.
