J. E. Mainer, an influential figure in American old-time music, was born on July 20, 1898, and grew up on a farm in the mountains of Weaverville, North Carolina. He began playing the banjo and fiddle at a young age, showcasing his musical talent early on. In 1933, he established the band J.E. Mainer and his Crazy Mountaineers, which gained recognition after making their radio debut on WBT in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mainer's contributions to music were significant, as he continued to record in the late 1940s with his sons for King Records. His legacy was honored when he was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame on October 11, 2012, a testament to his lasting impact on the genre and his dedication to preserving traditional music.
