John Morris leads The Time, an influential funk rock band that emerged from Minneapolis in 1981. The group played a pivotal role in shaping the Minneapolis sound, blending elements of funk, R&B, new wave, and synth-pop. They are well-known for hit singles like "Jungle Love," "Cool," and "777-9311." After a hiatus, The Time reunited for the 1990 film Graffiti Bridge, releasing the single "Jerk Out." In 2011, they rebranded as the Original 7ven, marking their evolution with the album "Condensate." The band's contributions to music have been recognized with a star on the exterior of the iconic Minneapolis nightclub, First Avenue.
