John Prine, born on October 10, 1946, in Maywood, Illinois, was a prominent American singer-songwriter celebrated for his country-folk music. His debut album, released in 1971, featured iconic tracks such as "Paradise" and "Sam Stone," showcasing his unique blend of humorous lyrics and poignant social commentary. In 1981, he co-founded Oh Boy Records, an independent label that allowed him to maintain creative control over his work. Prine's contributions to music were recognized with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020, shortly before his passing on April 7, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19. Throughout his life, he faced significant health challenges, including battling cancer twice, yet he continued to create music that resonated with audiences.
