Joshua Donald White Jr., born on November 30, 1940, was a notable American recording artist recognized for his contributions to music, particularly in the blues and jazz genres. He made his professional debut at just four years old, performing alongside his father, the renowned blues musician Josh White. In 1949, he co-starred with his father on Broadway in the production "How Long Til Summer?" for which he received a special Tony Award. White's solo career took off with the release of his first recording, "See Saw," in 1956, and throughout the 1960s, he became a prominent figure on the college tour circuit. In 1987, he earned a Grammy nomination for his album "Jazz, Ballads and Blues," highlighting his versatility as an artist. His later work includes the 2011 album "Tuning for the Blues." Tragically, his personal life was marked by loss when his wife, Jackie Harris, was murdered in 1971. Josh White passed away on December 28, 2024, in Rochester, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy that reflects both his talent and resilience in the face of adversity.
