Kai Winding was a talented trombonist and jazz composer who made significant contributions to the music scene in both Denmark and the United States. He gained prominence through his collaborations with fellow trombonist J. J. Johnson, particularly starting in 1954 when they recorded a series of trombone duets. One of his most notable achievements came in 1963 when his rendition of "More," the theme from the film Mondo Cane, climbed to number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. Winding also played a key role in the Birth of the Cool sessions in 1949, showcasing his innovative style and versatility. In addition to his impactful recordings, Winding was part of the renowned jazz ensemble The Giants of Jazz in 1971. He is remembered for being the first artist to record "Time Is on My Side" in 1963, a song that later gained fame in the rock genre. His legacy continues through his son, Jai Winding, who is a noted keyboardist and session musician, furthering the family's musical lineage.
