Osbourne Ruddock, recognized as King Tubby, was a pivotal Jamaican sound engineer who played a critical role in shaping dub music during the 1960s and 1970s. He is often hailed as the inventor of the remix concept, which transformed music production. In 1958, he established his own sound system, Tubby's Hometown Hi-Fi, and later opened a studio in Waterhouse in 1971, where he engineered and remixed tracks for renowned producers like Lee Perry and Bunny Lee. Among his notable works, "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown" released in 1974 stands out as one of his most famous dub albums. King Tubby’s innovative techniques and creative vision left an indelible mark on the music industry before his untimely death on February 6, 1989. His influence continues to resonate in modern music, especially in the genres that embrace remixing and dub styles.
