Why it matters
Kolumbo is an active submarine volcano situated in the Aegean Sea, approximately 8 km northeast of Cape Kolumbo in Santorini, Greece. 5 km across. It first came to human attention when it erupted between 1649 and 1650, an event that led to devastating pyroclastic flows and around seventy fatalities.
