Lester Young

Jazz
Lester Young, born on August 27, 1909, in Woodville, Mississippi, was a significant figure in the world of jazz as a tenor saxophonist and occasional clarinetist. He gained widespread recognition as a key member of Count Basie's orchestra, where his relaxed and cool tone, combined with sophisticated harmonies, helped shape the sound of jazz during his era. Young is also credited with popularizing much of the hipster jargon associated with the genre. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, from which he was dishonorably discharged, Young experienced a more prolific and lucrative phase in his career. His notable works include memorable tracks such as "Lady Be Good," "Every Tub," and "Jumpin' at the Woodside." Young's influence on jazz remained strong until his passing on March 15, 1959, in New York City.
