Mighty Sparrow, born Slinger Francisco on July 9, 1935, is a celebrated calypso artist from Trinidad, renowned for his skills as a vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist. He has earned the title of "Calypso King of the World" thanks to his remarkable success in the genre, winning Trinidad's Carnival Road March competition and the Calypso King title eight times each. His career took off in 1954, and he gained significant recognition with the iconic song "Jean and Dinah" in 1956. Throughout his career, Sparrow has released over forty albums, showcasing his talent for clever and politically charged lyrics. In the late 1970s, he adapted to the evolving music scene by embracing soca, ultimately winning his eighth Road March title in 1984 with the hit "Doh Back Back." Even into the 21st century, he remains an active performer, captivating audiences around the world with his music.
