New Edition emerged from Roxbury, Boston, in 1978 and quickly became a defining force in R&B and pop music during the 1980s. With their original lineup featuring Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, and Ralph Tresvant, they laid the groundwork for future boy bands. Known for hits like "Candy Girl," "Cool It Now," and "Mr. Telephone Man," the group gained immense popularity. After Bobby Brown left to pursue a solo career in 1985, Johnny Gill joined in 1987, contributing to their evolving sound. The group's reunion in 1996 led to the release of the album "Home Again," further solidifying their legacy. They were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017 and were inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022. Their last studio album, "One Love," came out in 2004, but their influence and memorable tracks, such as "Can You Stand the Rain" and "If It Isn't Love," continue to resonate with fans today.
