Their music fits comfortably within the aesthetic of yacht rock and AOR (album-oriented rock), marking them as versatile players in the late 60s and 70s rock scene. Their debut album, Pickin' Up The Pieces, released in 1969, set the tone for a career that would include several notable releases such as Crazy Eyes and A Good Feelin’ to Know.
The band's sound is often described as an acoustic small-group texture, inviting focused listening that reveals their rich harmonies and intricate instrumentation. This sonic profile aligns with their roots in country rock and soft rock, making them a staple for listeners who appreciate a blend of contemporary pop/rock with a laid-back yet polished approach.
Poco's musical lineage can be traced back to Buffalo Springfield, an influence that helped shape their sound and direction. The band also shares ties with notable musicians like Richie Furay, Jim Messina, Randy Meisner, and Timothy B. Schmit, all of whom contributed to the group's dynamic and evolving identity.
