Primus originated in El Sobrante, California, in 1984 and has been a distinctive force in the rock scene ever since. The band's lineup includes bassist and vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry 'Ler' LaLonde, and drummer John 'Hoffer' Hoffman as of March 2025. They first gained attention with their live album "Suck on This" in 1989, followed by their acclaimed studio debut, "Frizzle Fry," released in 1990. Their major-label breakthrough came with "Sailing the Seas of Cheese" in 1991, which featured the hit single "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver" and earned platinum certification. Known for their funk metal sound and irreverent lyrics, Primus has produced several notable tracks, including "My Name Is Mud" and "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver." The band has experienced various lineup changes and took a hiatus from 2000 to 2003 but continues to be influential in the rock genre. Their album "Tales from the Punchbowl" also received gold certification, further solidifying their place in music history.
