Stéphane Grappelli, born on January 26, 1908, in Paris, was a pioneering French jazz violinist celebrated for his significant contributions to the genre. He co-founded the influential Quintette du Hot Club de France in 1934 alongside guitarist Django Reinhardt, helping to shape the sound of jazz in Europe. Often referred to as "the grandfather of jazz violinists," Grappelli's impact on music has been profound and lasting. He recorded notable pieces throughout his career, including the iconic "Minor Swing" and "Dinah," and even lent his talents to Pink Floyd's album "Wish You Were Here" in 1975. Grappelli's artistic journey spanned several decades, during which he performed worldwide well into his eighties, showcasing his enduring passion for music. In addition to his performances, he composed scores for French films, such as "Going Places" in 1974 and "May Fools" in 1990. His legacy continues to inspire violinists and jazz musicians around the globe.
