The Byrds emerged from Los Angeles in 1964, making a significant mark on the music scene with their innovative blend of rock and folk. Known for pioneering the folk rock genre in 1965, they also played a crucial role in developing psychedelic rock and raga rock. The original lineup featured Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, David Crosby, Michael Clarke, and Chris Hillman, with McGuinn remaining the only constant member throughout various lineup changes. Their legacy includes timeless hits such as "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Turn! Turn! Turn!," and "Eight Miles High." The Byrds were recognized for their contributions to music by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. While Gene Clark and Michael Clarke passed away in the early 1990s, and David Crosby in 2023, McGuinn and Hillman continue to be active in the music world.
