The Cretones emerged from Los Angeles in the early 1980s, carving a niche in the power pop genre. Led by singer and guitarist Mark Goldenberg, the band was known for its catchy melodies and engaging lyrics, with Goldenberg penning most of their original material. Their discography includes two albums released under Richard Perry's Planet Records label, featuring the notable track "Real Love," which climbed to number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1980. In addition to their own releases, The Cretones contributed three songs to Linda Ronstadt's album "Mad Love," showcasing their songwriting prowess. Other band members included Peter Bernstein, Steve Beers, and Steve Leonard, all of whom played a significant role in shaping the group's sound. After their breakup, Goldenberg continued to make waves in the music industry, writing the hit song "Automatic" for the Pointer Sisters.
