The Crusaders

The Crusaders emerged as a significant force in the jazz and jazz fusion scene from the 1960s until the 2010s, originally known as The Jazz Crusaders before their name change in 1971. Founded by Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, and Nesbert 'Stix' Hooper, they made their mark in the music industry after signing with Pacific Jazz in 1961 and releasing 16 albums over eight years. Their cover of Stevie Wonder's "Uptight (Everything's Alright)" in 1966 marked their first chart success and showcased their unique sound. The group achieved commercial acclaim with their 1979 album "Street Life," which featured renowned vocalist Randy Crawford. Throughout their career, The Crusaders received nine Grammy nominations, solidifying their legacy in the jazz genre. Sadly, between 2014 and 2015, the music world lost key members Wayne Henderson, Joe Sample, and Wilton Felder. Notable songs like "Put It Where You Want It" and "Stomp and Buck Dance" continue to resonate with fans and reflect their influential style.
