The Motels, a new wave band hailing from Berkeley, California, gained recognition in the early 1980s with their catchy singles. Their most notable tracks include "Only the Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer," both of which reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band released their debut album in 1979, followed by "Careful" in 1980. A significant moment in their career was when their third album, originally titled "Apocalypso," was rejected by Capitol Records, prompting them to re-record it as "All Four One." Lead singer Martha Davis played a vital role in the band's evolution, reforming them as "The Motels featuring Martha Davis" in 1998. In addition to their popular hits, other noteworthy songs include "Total Control," which peaked at No. 7 on the Australian charts, and "Danger." Davis also pursued a solo career, launching it with her 1987 album "Policy." The Motels' distinctive sound and memorable lyrics have left a lasting impact on the new wave genre.
