The Seldom Scene, an influential American bluegrass band, originated in Bethesda, Maryland, in 1971. The original lineup featured notable musicians such as John Starling, Mike Auldridge, Ben Eldridge, Tom Gray, and John Duffey. They made their mark with the release of their debut album, Act I, in 1972, followed by two more albums in 1973. In 1977, Phil Rosenthal took over from John Starling, leading to the release of Baptizing in 1978. The band transitioned from Rebel Records to Sugar Hill Records during the late 1970s and continued to evolve over the years. Their 2007 album, Scenechronized, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album, highlighting their sustained impact in the genre. The original members were honored with induction into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2014. The Seldom Scene still actively performs and released their album Changes in 2019, continuing to share their beloved songs like "Muddy Water" and "Mean Mother Blues" with audiences.
