She gained widespread fame with her iconic hit single "Mickey," which achieved chart-topping success in several countries and remains a staple of pop culture. Before her music career took off, Basil made a name for herself as a dancer and choreographer, collaborating with renowned artists such as David Bowie and Talking Heads. In addition to her musical achievements, Basil was a founding member of The Lockers, a pioneering street dance group that left a lasting mark on dance culture. Her creativity earned her a Grammy nomination for the video album "Word of Mouth," and she won an Emmy for her choreography. In 2023, she was honored with induction into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame, further solidifying her legacy in the entertainment industry.
