Urbie Green, born on August 8, 1926, in Mobile, Alabama, was a prominent figure in the jazz world as a trombonist. His career included touring with esteemed musicians like Woody Herman and Gene Krupa, showcasing his talent on over 250 recordings. Green's influence stemmed from legendary trombonists such as Tommy Dorsey and jazz icons like Dizzy Gillespie. After Dorsey's passing in 1956, Green took the helm of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, continuing the legacy of big band music. Throughout his career, he released more than twenty albums, with notable works including "The Persuasive Trombone of Urbie Green" and "Blues and Other Shades of Green." His contributions to jazz were recognized when he was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1995. Even in his later years, Green remained active, performing at the Delaware Water Gap Celebration of the Arts Festival until the end of his life.
