Utopia emerged in 1973 under the leadership of Todd Rundgren. Originally known as Todd Rundgren's Utopia, the band was characterized by its progressive rock sound and a lineup that evolved over time. The most stable configuration from 1976 featured Rundgren alongside Kasim Sulton, Roger Powell, and John 'Willie' Wilcox. Utopia achieved their first top 40 success on the Billboard charts with the song "Set Me Free," which reached No. 27 in 1980. Their albums, including "Adventures in Utopia" and "Deface the Music," contributed to a dedicated fanbase throughout the 1980s. After disbanding in 1986, Utopia briefly reunited in 1992 before reviving their earlier incarnation for live performances in 2011. The band's notable tracks such as "Love Is the Answer" and "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" continue to resonate with fans, showcasing their enduring legacy in the rock music scene.
