Walter Steding

Walter Steding, born on September 7, 1950, in Pittsburgh, established himself as a prominent figure in the New York City No Wave and punk scenes after moving there in 1972. He gained recognition not only as an artist but also as a musician, becoming a self-taught performer known for his electric violin and a unique custom-built synthesizer. Steding was deeply involved with the artistic community, serving as an assistant to renowned artist Andy Warhol and becoming a familiar presence at The Factory. As the bandleader of TV Party, a public-access cable-TV talk show, he showcased his creative talents and engaged with various artistic movements. In addition to his musical contributions, Steding's artwork gained attention, culminating in an exhibition titled "This Is My Voice" in 2023. He also made an appearance in the film Downtown 81, which was released in 2000, further solidifying his connection to the vibrant art and music scene of his time.
