Yipes! emerged from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1977, following the addition of members Teddy Freese and Andy Bartel. Initially gaining traction by winning a battle of the bands contest, the group secured a contract with Millennium Records. Their self-titled debut album dropped in 1979, showcasing their energetic rock sound. Yipes! quickly garnered attention, notably charting on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1980 with their cover of "Darlin'," a track that remains one of their most recognized songs. Despite their early success, Yipes! disbanded in 1981 after being let go by their label. However, the band reunited in 2013, marking a significant comeback and earning a spot in the Wisconsin Area Music Industry Hall of Fame, highlighting their lasting influence in the rock scene. Throughout their career, Yipes! shared stages with iconic acts like Cheap Trick and Jefferson Starship, solidifying their presence in the music world.
