Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun – Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun

Baron Von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun brings together Jefferson Airplane members Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, and David Freiberg at a fascinating crossroads for the Airplane family. Released in 1973 alongside the final Jefferson Airplane album, the live Thirty Seconds Over Winterland, it carries their psychedelic rock orbit into a collaborative studio setting. Jerry Garcia plays lead guitar on most of the record, and David Crosby adds vocals, tying the album to the wider West Coast rock circle. Even the title has inside-baseball charm: Crosby’s nicknames for Kantner and Slick became the album’s name, paired with Drew Struzan’s psychedelic cover art of the artists against a snow-capped mountain landscape. At $14, this 1973 vinyl pressing is an affordable copy with real Airplane-family appeal. The record is graded VG+, a solid everyday grade with light lines, sleeve marks, or small scuffs expected, but not wear that should overwhelm the music.
