Chicago’s self-titled Chicago carries unusual art-world context for a rock album: John Berg and Nick Fasciano’s cursive Chicago logo cover is part of the permanent collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art. The music itself pushes the band’s jazz-rock approach into an ambitious format, with a seven-part, 13-minute suite composed by trombonist James Pankow. James William Guercio produced the album, continuing his early work with the band after Chicago Transit Authority. Its Gold certification in April 1970 and Platinum certification in 1991 point to how strongly this record connected with buyers over time. At under $15, this is an affordable Chicago vinyl LP with real album context behind it. This 1970 repress vinyl record has both records graded VG+, meaning the discs may show a few light lines, sleeve marks, or small scuffs, but not wear that should overwhelm the music.
