Duke Ellington- Blue Rose with Rosemary Clooney-LP

Blue Rose with Rosemary Clooney captures a unique moment when Duke Ellington returned to Columbia Records after a four-year break, pairing his orchestra with Clooney’s debut studio vocals. The album blends Ellington’s compositions with familiar standards, creating a sophisticated dialogue between big band jazz and vocal interpretation. The sessions took place in early 1956, with the orchestra laid down in New York and Clooney’s voice added later in Los Angeles—a geographic duet that speaks to the era’s recording practices as much as to the music itself. It stands out as a collaboration where Ellington’s lush arrangements provide a rich backdrop for Clooney’s warm, confident phrasing. This 1956 pressing offers a solid vintage experience on vinyl, presented here in VG+ condition. Expect a well-played record with minor surface marks or light scuffs typical of everyday use, but nothing that should overshadow the music’s clarity or flow. For anyone intrigued by the meeting of Ellington’s orchestral finesse and Clooney’s smooth vocal delivery, this pressing delivers both historical weight and listening pleasure. It’s the kind of pairing that might make you reconsider how much distance can exist between New York and Los Angeles—at least in stereo.
