Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger's Songs Of Two Rebellions offers a compelling collection of traditional Scottish ballads centered on the Jacobite uprisings of 1715 and 1745. With 15 tracks including "Such a Parcel of Rogues in a Nation" and "The Bonnie Moorhen," this 1960 Folkways release captures the turbulent spirit of Scotland's past through poignant vocals and authentic acoustic arrangements. Seeger's guitar and banjo contributions add a textured backdrop that grounds these historical narratives in folk tradition without veering into nostalgia. This 1961 pressing on vinyl presents those stories in mono, a format that suits the straightforward storytelling and intimate performances. The record here is graded VG+, meaning it carries the usual light surface marks from gentle use but nothing that should interfere with enjoyment. It’s the kind of sturdy companion for anyone who’s curious about Scotland’s musical memory or appreciates MacColl’s role in preserving folk history. And since the album doubles as a mini history lesson, it’s a neat reminder that not all rebellions end with a chart-topping single—sometimes the songs themselves keep the legacy alive.
