Better Than The Rest offers an intimate glimpse into George Thorogood and The Destroyers’ early sound, favoring acoustic arrangements that emphasize focused listening over their later, electrified swagger. Tracks like "In The Night Time" and "Howlin' For My Darlin" showcase a stripped-down band chemistry that highlights the raw storytelling and rootsy energy that Thorogood would build on in subsequent releases. This album sits neatly alongside blues and roots collections, appealing to those who appreciate the quieter moments before the storm. This 1979 pressing delivers those performances on vinyl with a clean, glossy surface showing only minimal faint paper scuffs, reflecting careful handling over the years. The record’s very good plus condition means it’s ready to slip onto your turntable without much fuss, making it a straightforward choice for listeners wanting to hear Thorogood’s foundational work without the need for a magnifying glass. It’s a snapshot of a band on the cusp, captured in a format that refuses to shout but insists you lean in close—sometimes the best stories come in whispers.
