Sports by Huey Lewis and the News marked a defining moment for the band, delivering a set of tightly crafted rock tunes that blend catchy hooks with a keen sense of rhythm. Produced by the band themselves and engineered by Jim Gaines, the album features standout tracks like "The Heart Of Rock & Roll" and "I Want A New Drug," which showcase their knack for accessible yet engaging songwriting. The mix, handled by Bob Clearmountain and Larry Alexander, balances the energetic band performances with clarity, making it a solid listen whether you’re tuning in for the driving beats or the subtle interplay in songs like "Walking On A Thin Line." It’s a record where the band’s workmanlike approach to rock feels as deliberate as it does effortless—a reminder that sometimes the heart of rock and roll beats in straightforward, no-frills fashion. This 1983 pressing brings those qualities to vinyl with a presentation suitable for everyday listening. Graded VG+, you can expect a record with light surface marks or paper scuffs typical of regular use but nothing that should distract from the music itself. The 12-inch format and pressing year place it close to the album’s original era, making it a practical choice for collectors who appreciate a solid vintage copy without chasing perfection. It’s the kind of record that fits comfortably into a collection and rewards repeated plays—proof that rock’s heart can still keep a steady, dependable beat.
