Perfect Angel stands as a luminous chapter in Minnie Riperton’s career, blending soul, jazz, and funk with the delicate touch of Wonderlove’s arrangements. This 1974 release is perhaps best known for “Lovin' You,” a song that floats effortlessly with Riperton’s signature five-octave voice. The album’s acoustic ensemble, enriched by percussive layers from Ollie E. Brown and congas played by Rocki Dzidzornu and Rocky Dijon, frames her vocals in an intimate yet intricate setting. Barry Feinstein’s cover art complements the music’s soft glow, hinting at the album’s delicate balance of vulnerability and strength. This pressing dates from the album’s original year, offering a vintage feel for collectors and listeners who appreciate the tactile connection to the era. The vinyl is graded VG, meaning it shows some noticeable wear and might carry background noise, but remains fully playable for those who don’t mind a few imperfections in exchange for its historical presence. It’s a solid choice for anyone drawn to focused listening experiences with a soulful edge, and a reminder that even an angel can have a few scratches on their halo.
