Neil Young – On The Beach

Neil Young’s On The Beach was released by Reprise Records in July 1974 as his fifth studio album. Coming after the huge success of Harvest, it became the second entry in Young’s so-called Ditch Trilogy, a run of darker, less polished records shaped by over-exposure, alienation, and melancholy. That tension is a big part of the album’s pull: the songs move through rock, folk-rock, country-rock, and blues-rock territory without smoothing away the rough edges. “Revolution Blues” is especially striking, casting a hard goodbye to the Laurel Canyon folk scene with backing from members of The Band. The sessions were loose and haphazard, with Young using different musicians, swapping instruments, and giving them only spare arrangements to follow. This 1974 Pitman vinyl pressing is graded VG++, meaning the record is very clean overall, with glossy vinyl and only very small light marks, sleeve scuffs, or faint lines expected.
