New Riders of the Purple Sage's 1974 album Brujo offers a thoughtful blend of country rock that reflects the band's roots alongside their evolving sound. Known for their close association with Jerry Garcia, this record finds the group comfortably exploring a more focused, acoustic-driven approach within a tight-knit ensemble setting. The album’s charm lies in its balance between traditional twang and a laid-back, deliberate style that invites attentive listening rather than background noise—perfect for anyone intrigued by the intersection of rock and Americana in the mid-70s. This 1974 Columbia pressing presents Brujo on vinyl with a clean, glossy surface showing only minor, faint marks typical of careful use. While the album itself may not shout for attention on the shelf, it rewards those willing to lean in—sometimes the quietest records have the most to say, and this pressing lets you hear it clearly.
