O'Jays- Back Stabbers-LP

Back Stabbers by the O’Jays captures a pivotal moment in early ’70s soul, delivering the signature sound of Philadelphia International Records with both grit and groove. The title track warns of deceitful friends, inspired by a similar cautionary tale in “Smiling Faces Sometimes,” while “Love Train” became a chart-topping anthem of unity that still resonates decades later. Recorded at Sigma Sound Studios, this album blends lush arrangements and heartfelt vocals, marking the O’Jays’ first release with Philadelphia International and a decisive step in their evolution. This 1972 pressing offers a solid listen for those who appreciate the era’s classic soul textures. The vinyl shows visible wear consistent with a VG grade, so expect some background noise but no major playback interruptions. For anyone who enjoys the tactile experience of a well-worn groove, this copy brings both musical and historical weight without demanding a spot in a glass case. It’s proof that even backstabbers can come with a good story—and a reliable spin.
