Paul Sawtell and Bert Shefter’s A Dog Of Flanders offers an intimate acoustic ensemble experience that invites focused listening through its delicate textures and evocative compositions. The album’s collection, featuring tracks like "The Little Rembrandt" and "In The Cathedral/The Deposition," weaves a narrative rich in subtle moods and cinematic detail, making it a thoughtful choice for those who appreciate music that unfolds with quiet depth rather than immediate flash. It’s an album that rewards patience, much like a good story told in whispers rather than shouts. This 1959 pressing presents the work on vinyl with a clarity that suits its nuanced arrangements, housed in a format that lends itself well to attentive play. The record is graded VG++, indicating a surface that is glossy and very clean, with only minor light marks that won’t distract from the listening experience. For someone looking to explore this quieter corner of the focused listening spectrum, this pressing delivers the kind of well-maintained presentation that’s rare to find without hunting through a stack of less careful care. It’s the sort of record that might quietly slip into your collection and surprise you when it speaks up. Paul Sawtell, Bert Shefter.
