Ron Jacobs’ A Child’s Garden Of Grass (A Pre - Legalization Comedy) offers an unusual blend of humor and insight, focusing on the cultural and physical effects of marijuana just before legalization debates gained momentum. The album unfolds as a series of vignettes, from “Acquiring Marijuana: General Effects” to “Listening To Music” and “Making Love,” all performed with a gentle acoustic ensemble that invites focused listening rather than background noise. It’s a curious snapshot of its era, balancing comedy with a thoughtful exploration of its subject matter, which might explain why it still turns heads decades later. This 1971 vinyl pressing presents the album on clean, glossy vinyl with only minor light scuffs typical of well-kept records, graded VG++. The format suits the intimate nature of the material, allowing the nuances of the small ensemble acoustic setting to come through clearly. If you’re interested in a record that doubles as a time capsule and a quirky listening experience, this copy is a solid choice.
