Sam Cooke – Night Beat

Night Beat takes its title from the late-night sessions Sam Cooke cut with a small quartet of studio musicians, a setting that gives the record a focused blues-and-soul character. Originally released by RCA Victor in 1963, it has long been regarded by many critics as one of Cooke’s strongest albums, with production from Hugo & Luigi and notable playing from Billy Preston. That combination of Cooke’s voice, seasoned studio backing, and after-hours concept makes it a particularly rewarding part of his catalog. This copy is a 1986 Japan import reissue on vinyl, priced at $40. The record is graded VG++, a very clean used grade with glossy vinyl and only very small light marks, sleeve scuffs, or faint lines expected. For a Cooke title with this reputation, the Japan import pressing and strong vinyl grade give this copy its appeal.
