Copy notes: Packaging scuff keeps disc VG++. Plays NM. Gold PROMO stamp on cover. Very light ringwear and very lightly bowed (not creased) jacket corners. Very solid VG+ jacket.
Damn The Torpedoes marked Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ confident leap into a sharper, more radio-ready sound that still held onto their rock roots. The album balances punchy rockers like "Refugee" and "Don't Do Me Like That" with thoughtful moments such as "Louisiana Rain," all crafted with the keen songwriting partnership of Petty and Mike Campbell. Produced by Jimmy Iovine and Tom Petty, this record benefited from a polished yet energetic approach, supported by the harmonium and harmonica accents from Benmont Tench and Petty himself. The cover art, designed by Tommy Steele and Stan Evenson Design Inc., complements the album’s focused, no-nonsense attitude. This 1979 pressing offers a solid vintage snapshot of the band’s breakthrough era, complete with engineering work by Grey Russell and Thom Panunzio that keeps the sound crisp and immediate. The vinyl here is in very clean shape, showing only minor surface marks that won’t distract from playback. For anyone drawn to classic rock with a pop sensibility, this LP holds its ground, proving that sometimes dodging torpedoes means steering straight into your best work.
