Kool & the Gang, an influential American R&B, soul, and funk band, originated in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1964. Founded by brothers Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell, along with Dennis "Dee Tee" Thomas and others, they made their debut with the album "Kool and the Gang" in 1969. Their breakthrough came in 1973 with "Wild and Peaceful," which produced iconic tracks like "Jungle Boogie" and "Hollywood Swinging." The band's peak years, from 1979 to 1986, were marked by the release of hit albums such as "Ladies' Night" and "Celebrate!". With over 70 million albums sold globally, Kool & the Gang has earned two Grammy Awards and seven American Music Awards for their contributions to music. In 2024, they were honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, solidifying their legacy in the industry. Their ability to blend infectious rhythms with memorable melodies is exemplified in beloved songs like "Celebration" and "Get Down on It."
