Larry Coryell, born on April 2, 1943, was an influential American jazz guitarist celebrated as the "godfather of fusion" music. He played a key role in blending jazz with elements of country and rock, paving the way for a new musical genre. Throughout his career, Coryell collaborated with notable artists such as Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, and Chick Corea, showcasing his versatility and innovation. In 1973, he founded The Eleventh House, which released the debut album "Introducing Eleventh House with Larry Coryell" the following year. Some of his notable works include tracks like "Prince of the Sea" and "Nuages," which highlight his exceptional guitar skills. Coryell faced personal challenges, including struggles with alcoholism and drug abuse, but he overcame these obstacles and began practicing Nichiren Buddhism, which positively influenced his life and music. His contributions to the guitar community were also evident through his monthly column for Guitar Player magazine from 1977 to 1989, where he shared insights and techniques that inspired many aspiring musicians.
