Meco Monardo, born on November 29, 1939, in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania, was a notable American record producer and musician celebrated for his contributions to space disco music. His most famous work is the disco rendition of the Star Wars theme, which became a defining hit in 1977. Meco's album "Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk" achieved platinum status in the US, marking a significant milestone in his career. He also produced the popular track "Never Can Say Goodbye" for Gloria Gaynor, showcasing his diverse musical talents. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Meco began his journey in music by forming a jazz band there. His creative output included memorable songs like "Can You Read My Mind" and themes from iconic films such as "Superman" and "Star Trek." After a successful career, he stepped away from the music scene in 1985 and passed away on May 26, 2023, at the age of 83.
