The Orlons

Rhythm and bluesRock music
The Orlons emerged from Philadelphia in 1960, originally as an all-girl group called Audrey and the Teenettes. Comprising lead singer Rosetta Hightower, Shirley Brickley, Marlena Davis, and Stephen Caldwell, they achieved significant success with their first major hit, "The Wah-Watusi," which soared to No. 2 on the US pop charts. This track, along with others like "Don't Hang Up" and "South Street," earned them three gold discs during their career. The group disbanded in 1968 after Hightower chose to remain in England following a tour. Tragically, the group faced losses over the years, with Shirley Brickley being shot in 1977 and Marlena Davis passing away from lung cancer in 1993. Stephen Caldwell, the last surviving original member, died on October 2, 2025. The Orlons left a lasting legacy in the R&B genre with their memorable hits and contributions to the music scene.
