The Romantics emerged from Detroit, Michigan, in 1977, carving a niche in the power pop and new wave genres. The original lineup featured Wally Palmar, Mike Skill, Rich Cole, and Jimmy Marinos. They gained considerable fame across the United States, Canada, Australia, and parts of Europe, with standout tracks like "What I Like About You" and "Talking in Your Sleep" becoming staples of their repertoire. Their album "In Heat" marked a high point in their career, achieving significant commercial success with over 900,000 copies sold in the U.S. Despite facing legal challenges with their management in the late 1980s that stalled new music releases, the band made a comeback in the mid-1990s. Their contributions to rock music were recognized when they were inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2011. The Romantics continue to resonate with fans, reflecting the enduring appeal of their catchy melodies and lively performances.
