Baja Marimba Band – Baja Marimba Band

Baja Marimba Band’s self-titled album has a direct A&M connection: Herb Alpert oversaw production and contributed arrangements, linking it closely to the Tijuana Brass world while giving marimba player Julius Wechter’s group its own Latin-pop personality. The set includes “Comin’ In The Back Door,” the band’s hit single that reached No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964. Visually, the cover leans into a broad comic image of the group in sombreros, old clothes, fake mustaches, cigars, and beer—very much a period piece in its humor. This copy is a 1964 mono vinyl pressing, a nice match for the album’s original-era A&M presentation. At under $15, it’s an affordable vintage Latin jazz/pop record with a recognizable single and strong label-era appeal. The record is graded VG+, meaning a few light lines, sleeve marks, or small scuffs are expected, but not wear that should dominate the music.
